Ms. Mikayla Denise reside on from Columbus, Ohio eastside. They are 31 years of age, a graduate of Aveda Institute with certification as a Managing Cosmetologist. Currently employed with the Mozaic program as an Engagement Specialist throughEquitas Health. Within this position they are out in the community testing and providing linkage to care, also responsible for ensuring that people living with HIV are able to access and maintain care. They have also many shows and benefits that has raised funds and awareness for the fight against HIV/AIDS, along with many other efforts of help for other lgbtqia organizations. She is known in the community as a positive representation and as an entertainer that had gained local, nation, and international success, also have gained titles and awards in the industry of pageantry, modeling, and entertainment.
Presentation: Lesbian Health: What We Have and What We Need
Time: Breakout Session 4
This presentation will be delivered as an oral presentation with a supplemental PowerPoint. Health inequity and disparities within the lesbian community will be. Information regarding disparities will be reviewed as well as theories as to why the disparities exist. A discussion of potential solutions that involve education, research goals, community engagement and fostering a safe environment within women’s healthcare for non-gender conforming people will be discussed as ways to help increase the access and utilization of women’s health by lesbians and other members of the LGBTQAI community.
1. Discuss health disparities present in the Lesbian Community.
2. Review theories of why disparities exist in healthcare and research.
3. Discuss potential solutions to improve lesbian utilization of preventive women’s health with the goal of decreasing disparities.
