Liam Gallagher is a graduate of The Ohio State University and currently works as the Transgender Outreach Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator for Stonewall Columbus. He has been an activist in the LGBTQ community since high school, and continued this work at Ohio State where he developed the first transgender and gender non-conforming student group during his time as a student. He has worked extensively with LGBTQ youth through community building projects and leadership development workshops, and is passionate about advocating for the transgender community, as well as the larger LGBTQ community.
Presentation: Going Beyond LGBTQ 101: Examining the Intersections of Identity and Sexuality through a Trans Lens

Sexuality has widely been considered something that can neatly be categorized by labels such as lesbian, straight, gay, or bisexual. However, we know that a truly holistic view of sexuality is often more complex than can be described by one word. In this workshop, we are going to break down the binary categories that are traditionally associated with sexuality and dive deeper than your typical LGBTQ 101. We will examine the concept of sexuality and discuss how gender identity may impact how we experience our sexual identities. We will first introduce the OBI model, then discuss the Circles of Sexuality, developed by Dennis Dailey and adapted by Eli Green, which breaks sexuality into 5 components: Intimacy, Sensuality, Sexual Identity, Sexual Health and Reproduction, and Power/Sexualization. We will then examine how these circles may impact the way a trans identified person experiences their own sexuality. We will finish by exploring new ways of mapping our identities and how we can improve on these existing models.
1. To have a more holistic understanding of how gender identity and sexuality may interact with each other.
2. To provide participants with tools to better work with individuals who fall outside the binary, including language that is more inclusive when working with trans or non-binary individuals.
3. To break down the binary systems of gender and sexuality that we have been taught.
