Presentation: Surgical Options for Folks Assigned Female at Birth
Time: Breakout Session 2
This workshop will be an overview of the current surgical options available to those who were assigned female at birth, including chest reconstruction, genital surgeries, hysterectomy/oophorectomy, and other ‘masculinizing’ procedures. We will begin with a brief introduction to FtM gender affirming surgery, including how to make an informed decision when choosing a surgeon and the basics for starting the process. We will then spend a bulk of our time discussing each procedure including the current techniques that are available, things to consider when planning for surgery, risks/complications, and recovery. This presentation is primarily for those interested in pursuing gender affirming surgery, their partners/caretakers, or health providers; however, all are welcome.
1. To better understand the current surgical options that are available for folks who were assigned female at birth.
2. To help participants feel more informed when choosing a surgeon or when helping a client choose a surgeon.
3. To help prepare folks for the barriers they may encounter when accessing gender affirming surgical options, including risks and complications that may occur.
